So today marks 3 weeks that I have not had ONE SINGLE SODA. Jim and I saw the FedUpmovie.com Documentary, and I was shocked into quitting immediately when I realized what I was putting into my body. (One can of soda EQUALS my daily suggested intake of sugar... so everything after that turns into fat... WOAH!) How many sodas was I drinking a day?? *shudder* I was only thinking of the calories!
We have also cut out almost 90% of the sugar filled snacks that lined our shelves (we donated them to people who can luckily still eat those things :-) We switched to a lot of fruits and nuts and veggies as healthier snack options. I also read a lot of Nutrition labels now on snacks I originally thought of as healthy... YIKES. Goodbye yummy fruity greek yogurts! Okay I'm admitting I'm still human and crave sugary snacks, and now and again I allow myself a trip to Friendly's or a chocolate molten lava cake... but its a much reduced treat now.
As some of you know, I started running about 3 months ago, having never run in my life, even while playing LYA soccer as a kid, i more or less "galloped" around the field! I started with the Couch25K App, running for 1 min intervals, Now I can actually run for a half hour at a pretty good clip!
With the combination of my running 3 days a week and already riding my horse 4+ times a week, plus I added the gym to my schedule a few days a week at work, doing strength training to building muscle. (nothing crazy just yet) I no longer get red in the face when I run, or feel like i'm going to pass out while riding in a lesson! This is HUGE for me, I used to turn MAROON in the face and have to take several breaks during a 45 min lesson so I could cool down.
So far I have lost 5 pounds, my body no longer feels or looks bloated, and my clothes fit wonderfully! I don't really harp on the numbers of the scale, I go by how my clothes fit, and right now i'm pretty happy!!
I am really excited with the changes I've made and the results I've seen so far, and am excited for the future! Who knows, maybe i'll join Jim at the Crossfit gym again soon. :-O
I always thought I hated working out, and that I could never do it b/c I couldn't breathe. Using the Couch25K app allowed me to train as slowly as I wanted and needed, My running didn't always match what the app said, (this drove me nuts b/c i want to be on par). But it definitely got better almost every time. Now I'm not embarrassed, but excited to work out!
Since May 7 2013 I've made these changes...Alcohol free, smoke free, soda free, sugars reduced = NEW Meghan!
I really am living a new life, and I freaking love it.
